4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Delhi-NCR Region

Strong 4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Delhi-NCR, No Casualties Reported

New Delhi, July 10:
A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck the Delhi-NCR region on Thursday morning, creating panic among residents in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and nearby areas. The tremors were felt around 9:04 a.m. and lasted for nearly a minute.

According to the National Centre for Seismology, the epicentre of the quake was in Jhajjar, Haryana.

People rushed out of homes and offices in fear, though no injuries or damage have been reported so far. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation.

Following the tremors, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) issued a safety advisory, urging citizens to follow precautions before, during, and after an earthquake.

Many residents described it as the strongest and longest tremor they’ve felt in years.

"I was using my laptop when I suddenly felt the chair shake. The fan started moving too. I ran outside immediately," said a resident from Delhi.

"The jolts were strong and scary. Everyone ran outside their homes," said another local from Noida.

Though major quakes (above magnitude 6) are rare in the region, mild to moderate tremors are reported occasionally.

  • A 2.3 magnitude quake hit South East Delhi on June 8.

  • In February, a 4.0 magnitude quake with epicentre in Dhaula Kuan shook the region.

  • In April, tremors were felt from a 5.9 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan's Hindu Kush.

  • The strongest earthquake recorded in Delhi’s history was of 6.0 magnitude on August 27, 1960.
