AP Inter Education: Revolutionary Reforms Allow Students to Choose Subjects Freely
Andhra Pradesh has introduced revolutionary reforms in intermediate education, changing decades-old rigid group systems like MPC and BiPC. From the 2025-26 academic year, students can now select subjects of their choice, regardless of traditional groups, offering a rare opportunity to study both engineering and medical-related subjects simultaneously.
Unexpected Response Towards MBiPC
Earlier, MPC students were restricted to Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, while BiPC students had to study Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. With the new reforms, these rules have been removed. An elective subject system replaces the second language, allowing students to choose from 24 available subjects. This enables MPC students to take Biology and BiPC students to take Mathematics as part of their curriculum.
Under the new system, 11,257 students showed interest in MBiPC. Some chose elective subjects, while others took them as additional subjects. Notably, 7,400 BiPC students opted for Mathematics, and 3,613 MPC students chose Biology as an additional subject. This year, 5,40,924 students enrolled in the first-year intermediate.
Uniform Five-Subject System Across All Groups
The Board also restructured courses: in MPC, Mathematics A and B are combined into a single subject; in BiPC, Botany and Zoology are merged into Biology. Now, all groups follow a five-subject pattern.
Public Exams to Start Earlier
With the new system, exam schedules have been revised. Previously, Mathematics and Biology exams were on the same day. Now, one subject per day will be conducted, extending the exam duration. As a result, intermediate public exams, usually held in March, will begin from February this year.
