AP High Court Makes Key Comments on Land Allocation to IT Companies

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has made important remarks regarding the allocation of land to major IT companies. Hearing petitions challenging the allocation of 22 acres of land in Madhurawada, Visakhapatnam to Cognizant Technology Solutions at a price of 99 paise per acre, the court discussed the necessity of government incentives to attract big companies.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dheeraj Singh Thakur and Justice Cheemalapati Ravili heard arguments from both sides. Petitioners’ lawyer J.D. Shravan Kumar questioned the allocation, while the government’s special counsel Pranati explained that the land distribution followed the new industrial policy. She assured the court that a detailed counter would be submitted.

The High Court observed that incentives are the only way to bring major companies to the state. Without such support, firms may prefer cities like Bengaluru or Hyderabad. The court emphasized that IT companies not only generate jobs for the youth but also increase government revenue. It directed the state government to present its policy on land allocation to various companies in detail.
