Kuppam & Dagadarthi Airports Update: Two New Airports Get Green Signal in Andhra Pradesh
The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the construction of two new airports — one at Kuppam (Chittoor district) and another at Dagadarthi (Nellore district). These projects will be developed under the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model, with financial assistance from HUDCO.
The government has directed APADCL (Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Ltd.) to take up the projects and complete them by 2027. Land acquisition and infrastructure work have already started, with revenue officials issuing preliminary notifications. Farmers have been asked to submit objections, if any, within 60 days.
The proposed Kuppam Greenfield Airport is expected to reduce passenger pressure on the heavily crowded Kempegowda Airport in Bengaluru, which is one of India’s busiest. Once the planned highway is ready, travelers will be able to reach Kuppam Airport within 60–90 minutes. Apart from passengers, the airport will also help in exporting fruits and vegetables, boosting farmers’ income.
Interestingly, once the Kuppam Airport is operational, the region will have three airports side by side — Renigunta, Bengaluru, and Kuppam. Experts believe this will strengthen regional connectivity and create new business opportunities.
The Dagadarthi Airport project in Nellore is also moving forward with approvals. Both airports are expected to transform air travel and economic growth in Andhra Pradesh.
