The Indian government is set to bring a revolutionary change to school education by introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) courses from Class 3 in CBSE schools. The new curriculum will be implemented from the 2026-27 academic year and will be rolled out across approximately 31,000 schools nationwide.
Initially, students will be introduced to basic AI concepts, including enhancing language skills, solving mathematical problems, and understanding advanced technologies such as chatbots, language models, and generative AI. While basic AI concepts will start from Class 3, from Class 6 onwards, AI will be taught as a skill-based subject to provide more in-depth knowledge.
CBSE Secretary Sanjay Kumar said, “The government’s primary aim is to foster an early understanding of technology among students.” He also noted that a pilot project is already underway, with teachers using AI tools for effective classroom teaching.
In addition, special training programs will be conducted for nearly one million teachers across the country to familiarize them with AI technology. This initiative will enable teachers to adopt new technologies effectively and provide students with a higher quality, technology-driven education.
