IMD: Extreme Temperatures Expected This Month!

India Meteorological Department (IMD) Issues Warning:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning stating that temperatures in May are expected to rise abnormally. The usual duration for hot winds during this month is around four days, but this time, they are expected to last up to a week. Both maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be above normal. However, the IMD also noted that if there is more rainfall than usual, the severe heat conditions observed last year might be avoided.

IMD's Director General, Mrityunjay Mahapatra, mentioned that the hot winds are likely to last for four or more days in May. The impact will be felt more in the regions of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Other states such as Gujarat, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Telangana, and parts of northern Karnataka may also face prolonged hot winds this time. Generally, in May, most areas except for the southern and western coastal regions experience hot winds for only one to three days.

Increased Rainfall Expected:

The IMD has also predicted higher-than-usual rainfall in many parts of the country, although the northern, central, and northeastern parts may experience lower rainfall. Due to the hot winds, elderly people, children, and individuals with heart or other health issues may face severe health problems. The rising temperatures may cause exhaustion and heatstroke. The IMD has urged people to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
