Amarnath Yatra Ready to Begin; ‘Operation Shiva’ Launched for Pilgrims’ Safety

The Jammu and Kashmir government has declared a strict no-flying zone over the Amarnath Yatra routes from July 1 to August 10, 2024. This means drones, balloons, and any other flying objects will be completely banned. The decision was taken by the Union Territory's Home Department to protect the pilgrims attending the holy Amarnath Yatra.

This year, the Yatra begins on July 3 and ends on August 8. Due to recent terrorist threats and past incidents, security agencies issued alerts. The no-fly zone decision follows incidents like the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam and border clashes between India and Pakistan in May, which increased tension in the region.

To ensure complete safety, over 50,000 security personnel have been deployed under ‘Operation Shiva’. Road-opening operations, bomb detection squads, and anti-IED teams will patrol daily. For the first time, jammers will also be used during convoys. Authorities believe these multi-layered security steps will help protect thousands of pilgrims visiting the holy shrine in the Himalayas.
