Telangana Factory Blast: 8 Missing Workers Presumed Charred, Death Toll Rises to 44
Hyderabad, July 9:
Authorities have confirmed that the eight missing workers from Sigachi Industries Ltd are presumed dead after the devastating June 30 blast at the factory in Pashamylaram, Sangareddy district, near Hyderabad. Officials believe their bodies were completely charred to ashes, as no remains were found in the debris.
On Wednesday, officials informed the families that DNA samples collected from the site did not match with those of the missing workers' relatives. As a result, the workers are now considered untraceable, and families have been advised to perform the final funeral rituals.
As immediate financial support, each family received a cheque of ₹15 lakh. Earlier, Sigachi Industries had also announced an ex gratia payment of ₹1 crore to the families of the deceased.
The explosion occurred at a plant that manufactures Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC) powder, which is used in pharmaceutical tablets and capsules.
With two more workers succumbing to injuries on Tuesday in different hospitals, the death toll has now reached 44. Over the past week, eight injured workers died during treatment, while 16 are still hospitalized. So far, 14 injured employees have recovered and been discharged.
During the blast, 143 employees were present at the site. Out of them, 61 workers are safe.
Rescue teams, including personnel from Fire Services, SDRF, HYDRAA, and police, have completed the debris clearance operation. A total of 44 human remains were recovered and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Hyderabad for DNA testing.
The identification process of the victims has now been completed at the Sangareddy Government Area Hospital mortuary.
