Jaipur, May 1:
In a one-sided affair at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Mumbai Indians (MI) handed Rajasthan Royals (RR) a crushing 100-run defeat, thereby knocking them out of the playoff race in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Chasing a formidable target of 218 runs, Rajasthan crumbled under pressure, getting bowled out for just 117 runs in 16.1 overs. This emphatic win marked Mumbai's sixth consecutive victory of the season and propelled them to the top of the points table.
Batting first after winning the toss, MI, under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, piled on a mammoth 217 for 2 in 20 overs. Rohit Sharma (53 off 36) and Ryan Rickelton (61 off 38) gave Mumbai a flying start with a 116-run opening partnership. The momentum was carried forward by Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, both remaining unbeaten on 48 off 23 balls, adding a blazing finish to the innings.
Rajasthan, in reply, never found their footing. Star performer Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who hit a century in the previous game, was dismissed for a duck. Yashasvi Jaiswal managed just 13. MI bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah (2/15), Karn Sharma (3/23), and Trent Boult (3/28), dismantled RR’s batting lineup with ruthless efficiency.
Karn Sharma played a crucial role, taking the key wickets of Dhruv Jurel, Maheesh Theekshana, and Kumar Kartikeya. Jofra Archer was the only bright spot for Rajasthan, top-scoring with 30 runs.
With this result, Rajasthan Royals have now lost eight of their 11 matches and are officially out of playoff contention, while Mumbai Indians continue their dominance and emerge as strong title contenders.
