Musi River Fury: Musarambagh Bridge Closed in Hyderabad
Traffic on Musarambagh Bridge comes to a halt
Increased flow from Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar gates
Heavy congestion on Golnaka Bridge
Narsingi ORR service road also closed
The release of water from the gates of Hyderabad’s twin reservoirs, Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar, has caused the Musi River to swell. With water levels rising to dangerous levels, authorities decided to close the critical Musarambagh Bridge, resulting in severe traffic congestion across several areas of the city.
From around 2 PM yesterday, floodwater began flowing onto the Musarambagh Bridge. The Malakpet traffic police promptly took precautionary measures, setting up barricades on both sides of the bridge to stop all vehicle movement. Vehicles were diverted to the Golnaka Bridge route, which caused heavy traffic and slowed movement along that corridor.
By 7 PM, officials further opened the gates of the twin reservoirs. Osman Sagar (Gandipet) gates were lifted by four feet, releasing 3,000 cusecs of water, while four gates of Himayat Sagar were lifted by four feet, releasing 5,000 cusecs into the Musi River. Due to the surge, the Narsingi Outer Ring Road service road and the Himayatnagar service road were also closed, halting traffic between Narsingi and Manchirevula.
