Bharat Bandh Today: Banking and Transport Services to be Affected Nationwide

Over 250 million workers are expected to participate in a nationwide Bharat Bandh today, called in protest against the central government’s anti-labor and anti-people policies.

The strike, organized by ten major trade unions and farmers' associations, is expected to affect key sectors including banking, transport, electricity, and postal services.

Services Likely to Be Affected:

  • Banking services may be completely shut, as the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) has extended full support to the bandh.

  • Coal mines, factories, postal services, and industrial units are likely to stop operations.

  • Around 2.7 million power sector workers are participating, possibly causing electricity disruptions in some areas.

  • Public transport such as government buses, taxis, and autos may stay off roads in various cities.

  • Railway unions are not officially participating, but protestors may block train routes, which could cause delays.

  • Schools and colleges will remain open as no official holiday has been declared.

Why the Strike?

Trade unions state that the bandh is against:

  • Corporate-friendly labor policies

  • Changes to labor laws under new labor codes

  • Privatization of public sector units

  • Contract and outsourcing in jobs

  • Rising unemployment and price hikes

They demand the withdrawal of anti-worker reforms and support for their 17 key demands.
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha, a farmers' front, has also extended support, leading to expected protests in rural areas.
