New Delhi, May 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Kerala and Andhra Pradesh on Friday to mark the inauguration and dedication of key infrastructure and development projects.
In Kerala, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive around 10:30 a.m. He will dedicate the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport to the nation. This Rs 8,900 crore project is India’s first dedicated container transshipment port. The port is strategically located near one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes and offers a natural depth of around 20 meters, making it a key asset for India’s global shipping and trade logistics.
The official statement highlights that this is the country’s first dedicated container transshipment port and symbolizes the transformative developments in India’s maritime sector as part of the country’s unified vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
After the event in Kerala, the Prime Minister will travel to Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, where he is expected to arrive around 3:30 p.m. In Amaravati, PM Modi will inaugurate, lay the foundation stone, and dedicate multiple development projects, collectively valued at over ₹58,000 crore. These include seven National Highway projects designed to ease traffic congestion and improve interstate travel. Some of the projects will involve widening highway stretches, constructing road overbridges, subways, and elevated corridors.
Furthermore, several railway infrastructure projects will also be inaugurated, such as the doubling of the rail line between Bugganapalle Cement Nagar and Panyam stations, which will improve connectivity between Rayalaseema and Amaravati. PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for six new National Highway projects and one railway project to enhance overall logistics efficiency and reduce congestion. One notable project is the construction of the Rail over Rail line between Guntakal West and Mallappa Gate stations to bypass freight trains at the Guntakal Junction.
The Prime Minister’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening India’s maritime sector and enhancing connectivity across the country.
