The latest developments surrounding Megastar Chiranjeevi’s upcoming film Kaaka have put an end to rumours about the project being temporarily halted. Writer Kona Venkat has strongly denied reports suggesting that the film’s shooting was stopped due to similarities with Rajinikanth’s blockbuster Baasha. He has also reaffirmed that Kaaka is gearing up for a Sankranthi release on January 13.
A few days ago, reports circulating in Film Nagar suggested that Chiranjeevi was unhappy with certain aspects of Kaaka. According to those rumours, nearly 70 per cent of the film’s shooting had been completed when concerns reportedly emerged over similarities between its storyline and the narrative template of Baasha.
The speculation further suggested that these similarities had prompted Chiranjeevi to pause the shoot and reconsider the project. However, the film's team has now dismissed these claims.
Writer Kona Venkat addressed the rumours through a social media post, making it clear that reports about the film being stopped were completely baseless. In a pointed response to those spreading the news, he said, "Sorry to disappoint you", indicating that the rumours had not affected the film's progress.
Kona Venkat also reiterated that Kaaka will arrive during the Sankranthi festive season, with its theatrical release scheduled for January 13, on the eve of Pongal. He shared a photograph with Megastar Chiranjeevi along with his clarification, further putting an end to the speculation surrounding the film.
Meanwhile, attention has shifted towards another Chiranjeevi project, Vishwambhara, which is reportedly being considered for a similar festive release window. Last month, reports emerged that the makers were trying to convince Chiranjeevi to bring the film to theatres during Sankranthi, reportedly due to certain OTT-related conditions.
At the same time, the Kaaka team was said to be determined to stick to its planned festive release. The possibility of both films targeting the same season has now triggered fresh discussions in film circles.
Against this backdrop, questions are being raised about whether the earlier reports of Kaaka's shooting being paused were connected to the release plans of Vishwambhara. However, there is no official confirmation supporting these claims, and they remain speculation.
For now, Kona Venkat's clarification makes one thing clear: Kaaka is very much on track for its announced Sankranthi release on January 13. The reported release plans of Vishwambhara, meanwhile, remain a subject of discussion.
