Summer Holidays Movie Review A Nostalgic Trip Back to Childhood

Summer Holidays Movie Review: Featuring Rohan Roy and Arun Dev in the lead roles, Summer Holidays is a Telugu nostalgic drama that takes audiences back to the carefree days of childhood. Set in 2001, the film explores friendship, family relationships and the simple joys of growing up in a village. With its emotional moments and familiar childhood experiences, the movie offers a pleasant trip down memory lane.

The story revolves around Ravuri Venkatesh, popularly known as RV (Arun Dev), who constantly faces pressure from his father (Harsha Vardhan) to concentrate on academics and achieve good grades. However, RV is more interested in enjoying life beyond textbooks. Understanding his situation, his mother Janaki (Vasuki) takes him to his grandmother's village, Thotavaripalem, during the summer vacation.

There, RV meets Kasi Venkatesawarlu, also known as KV (Rohan Roy), a boy who has little interest in education and dreams of earning money to enjoy a comfortable life. Despite their different personalities and backgrounds, the two quickly develop a strong friendship. Their experiences together form the central theme of the movie.

One of the biggest highlights of Summer Holidays is its nostalgic presentation of childhood. Moments involving mango fields, river swimming and cricket matches with friends beautifully recreate the atmosphere of growing up during the 1990s and early 2000s. These sequences are particularly appealing to audiences who can relate to those simpler days.

Rohan Roy delivers a convincing performance as KV, effectively portraying the lifestyle and challenges of a lower-middle-class family. His natural dialogue delivery and emotional expressions add authenticity to the character. Arun Dev also performs well as RV, presenting the personality of a boy who fears his strict father but genuinely cares about his friendship.

Jayasudha and Rajiv Kanakala make their presence felt in their respective roles. The emotional interactions involving Harshini and Rahul work particularly well in the second half. Sinjith Yerramilli's music and background score complement the nostalgic atmosphere, while Sai Prakash Ummadisingu's cinematography captures the village setting effectively.

However, the film has its share of shortcomings. The basic storyline follows a familiar pattern, making several developments predictable. A few cinematic conveniences, particularly the sudden change in the father's attitude during the climax, affect the emotional impact. Some characters, including those played by Jayasudha, Kushi Soni and Vasuki, could have received stronger character development.

Writer and director Srikar Nayan G takes a straightforward approach to the subject. Although he succeeds in establishing the nostalgic atmosphere and portraying the friendship between the lead characters, the writing needed greater depth in certain emotional sequences.

Final Verdict: Summer Holidays is a decent family entertainer that succeeds in bringing back memories of childhood through its village atmosphere, friendship and emotional moments. Rohan Roy and Arun Dev are among its major strengths. Despite a predictable storyline and some underdeveloped characters, the film remains a watchable option for audiences who enjoy nostalgic family dramas.
