Microsoft Plans Another Round of Major Layoffs Globally
Microsoft, the global tech giant, is planning another round of major job cuts. After laying off 10,000 employees in 2023, the company is now preparing to cut about 3% of its global workforce.
As of June 2024, Microsoft had around 228,000 employees worldwide. This new round of layoffs could impact thousands of employees across different regions and departments.
A Microsoft spokesperson told CNBC, “We are making necessary organizational changes to stay strong in a competitive market.” The company is focusing on streamlining operations and reducing roles, especially at the management level.
Earlier this year (January 2025), Microsoft had already let go of some staff based on performance reviews. However, the company made it clear that the current layoffs are not related to employee performance.
