Nagaland Governor La Ganesan Passes Away at 80
Nagaland Governor and former BJP MP La Ganesan (80) passed away in Chennai on Friday evening. He had been suffering from health issues for some time. On August 8, he collapsed at his residence in Chennai, sustained a serious head injury, and was admitted to a private hospital. Despite intensive treatment in the ICU, he breathed his last yesterday.
His mortal remains will be kept at his T. Nagar residence today for political leaders, relatives, and well-wishers to pay their respects. The funeral will also be held there.
Born on 16 February 1945 in Thanjavur, Ganesan was influenced by the RSS ideology from a young age. With his family also connected to the Sangh, he became a full-time pracharak in 1970 and served in Madurai and other regions for nearly two decades. He joined the BJP in 1991 and worked as the organizational secretary of the Tamil Nadu unit.
He played a key role in strengthening the BJP in Tamil Nadu and later worked in various national-level positions. From 2006 to 2009, he also served as the BJP Tamil Nadu State President. In 2016, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh. He was appointed as the Governor of Manipur in 2021, and in 2023, he briefly held additional charge as Governor of West Bengal.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top leaders mourned his death. PM Modi described him as a true nationalist who dedicated his life to serving the country and tirelessly worked for the growth of BJP in Tamil Nadu.
