‘Kannappa’ – A Big-Budget Devotional Action Film

Story Overview:
Thinnadu, a bold young man raised in a tribal village near the forest, strongly opposes animal sacrifices. As a brave leader, he wins the love of Nemali and marries her. In the same forest lies a powerful Shiva Lingam, guarded by Mahadev Shastri (Mohan Babu), who claims only he can worship it. An enemy, Kaalamukha, sets out to steal it with his army. How Thinnadu transforms into a true devotee and protects the sacred symbol forms the core story.

Analysis:
The film spends most of its time on tribal conflicts and action, delaying the spiritual transformation. Once the divine connection begins, the devotional elements come alive. Prabhas’ appearance adds value, though his look could’ve been better handled. Akshay Kumar as Shiva doesn’t fully fit in initially, but gets familiar later. Mohanlal and Madhubala’s roles feel underused. While New Zealand visuals are stunning, a stronger native touch is missing. With more focus on devotion than action, Kannappa could have been even more powerful. Still, it stands as a bold attempt with high production values and impactful moments.
