Jasprit Bumrah Creates History: First Asian Bowler to Take 150 Wickets in SENA Countries
Team India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has added yet another rare achievement to his illustrious career. He has become the first Asian bowler to claim 150 Test wickets in SENA countries — South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia — setting a new benchmark in cricket history. Bumrah reached this milestone during the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds.
Bumrah Shines in SENA Conditions
Bumrah showcased his brilliance once again in England's first innings, delivering a near lone fightback with the ball. He bowled 24.4 overs, conceding 83 runs and taking 5 wickets, marking his 10th five-wicket haul in SENA nations — a record for an Indian bowler. He is now the first Indian cricketer to achieve 10 five-wicket hauls in these conditions.
If Bumrah manages two more five-wicket hauls in SENA countries, he will surpass Wasim Akram's record of 11 such performances, becoming the highest among Asian bowlers.
Equals Kapil Dev’s Overseas Record
This was also Bumrah’s 12th five-wicket haul in overseas Tests, allowing him to equal the record held by former India captain Kapil Dev. However, while Kapil Dev reached the milestone in 66 Tests, Bumrah has achieved it in just 34 Tests, underscoring his incredible efficiency and impact.
Bumrah’s five-wicket hauls in overseas Tests include:
- 4 in Australia
- 3 each in England and South Africa
- 2 in the West Indies
In contrast, Bumrah has taken five-wicket hauls only twice in India, highlighting his exceptional effectiveness in foreign conditions.
