Ghati Movie Review – Action, Story and Public Talk

Ghaati Movie Review

Highlights

  • Anushka in a central role
  • Interesting storyline, but weak narration
  • Poorly written characters
  • Strengths: Anushka’s performance & scenic visuals of Eastern Ghats

Story

The story unfolds in the Eastern Ghats along the Andhra–Odisha border, where illegal marijuana smuggling takes place. The villagers here, known as “Ghaatis,” survive by working as carriers of ganja.

Among them are Sheelavathi (Anushka Shetty) and Desiraju (Vikram Prabhu), who fall in love and decide to marry. However, Naidu (Ravindra Vijay) and his younger brother Kundal (Chaitanya Rao) exploit the Ghaatis for their illegal trade.

Meanwhile, special officer Vishwadeep (Jagapathi Babu) enters the scene to curb the mafia. He discovers that ganja is not only being transported in bags but also in liquid form. Can Vishwadeep end the smuggling? Will Sheelavathi and Desiraju unite? That’s the rest of the story.

Analysis

Director Krish tries to narrate the film from three angles – the lives of Ghaatis, the smuggling mafia, and the police investigation. The story starts off briskly, but the characters lack depth, making it difficult for the audience to connect.

The first half focuses on the hardships of the Ghaatis, while the second half tries to convey a social message. However, excessive action scenes overshadow emotions.

Performances & Technical Aspects

  • Anushka Shetty: Delivers a strong performance, but the role lacks charm compared to her earlier films.
  • Vikram Prabhu: Weak as the male lead, fails to complement Anushka.
  • Chaitanya Rao: Surprises as the main villain and is the film’s twist.
  • Jagapathi Babu: His character was meant to be unique, but execution falls flat.
  • Technical Work: Manoj Reddy’s cinematography beautifully captures the Eastern Ghats. Music and editing are strictly average.

Verdict

Krish chose a good plotline and casting Anushka was a plus. However, the weak characterizations and disconnected narration drag the film down. Except for Anushka’s acting and the visuals, Ghaati ends up being a disappointing action thriller.
