President Droupadi Murmu has announced a major governor reshuffle involving six Indian states: Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Sikkim. The appointments were announced through an official statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday, covering both transfers of serving governors and fresh appointments to constitutional positions.
Om Prakash Mathur Appointed Kerala Governor
As part of the latest changes, Om Prakash Mathur, who was serving as the Governor of Sikkim, has been appointed as the new Governor of Kerala. Meanwhile, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who previously held the Kerala gubernatorial position, has been transferred to Tamil Nadu.
These changes mark a shift in the leadership of the gubernatorial offices in the two states. Both appointments form part of the broader administrative reshuffle announced by the President.
Four New Governors Named
The announcement also includes four new appointments to gubernatorial positions across Odisha, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Sikkim.
Braj Mohan Ram has been appointed as the Governor of Odisha. Dr Sudha Yadav has been named the new Governor of Karnataka, while Dr Dhal Singh Bisen will take charge as the Governor of Uttarakhand. Dushyant Gautam has been appointed as the Governor of Sikkim.
With these appointments, the reshuffle covers six states and combines the transfer of existing governors with the selection of new individuals for constitutional responsibilities.
Governor Appointments to Take Effect After Assuming Office
According to the official announcement, the new appointments will become effective from the respective dates on which the appointees formally assume charge. The transition to the new positions will therefore depend on when each individual takes over the responsibilities of the office.
Governors serve as the constitutional heads of their respective states and carry out duties assigned to them under the Constitution of India. Their responsibilities form part of the country's constitutional and administrative framework.
Further details regarding the formal assumption of office by the newly appointed governors are expected as the transition process progresses. The announcement represents a significant change in gubernatorial assignments across the six states.
The latest governor reshuffle announced by President Droupadi Murmu brings changes to the constitutional leadership of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Sikkim, with the appointments taking effect as the new governors formally assume their respective offices.
