Inspiring Story: A Young Boy Lost His Vision Early but Cracked UPSC with the Support of His Mother’s Eyes

In a strange twist of fate, a boy lost his eyesight at a very young age. After this, his father distanced himself from the family. But nothing could stop the boy because his mother stood strong by his side and gave him courage. When the boy expressed his desire to prepare for the Civil Services exam, his mother did not discourage him by saying it would be expensive or difficult. Instead, she became his eyes and worked day and night to support him.

Unlike many young people today who cannot sit still and study for even four hours despite having all comforts, this boy was different. Despite losing his vision and facing many challenges, he was determined to succeed. His mother, Vandana, read out books, stories, and news to him with a loud voice and patiently helped him learn everything. She attended every school and college with him to make sure he did not miss any lessons.

Manu Garg, from Jaipur, ranked 91st All India in the UPSC exams, an unexpected success story. From childhood, Manu had vision problems, which worsened by the eighth grade until he completely lost his sight. His mother Vandana encouraged him, saying, "I am your eyes." She tirelessly helped him study by reading aloud and guiding him. Manu became an excellent debater, winning over 150 competitions and graduated second in Political Science from Delhi University.

When Manu started UPSC preparation during the COVID period, his first attempt failed due to lack of good study material. When he felt disappointed, Vandana encouraged him again. This time, with a new study plan, technology, and his mother’s unwavering support, Manu used phone talk-back features and audio learning to master subjects. Vandana recorded and updated audio notes carefully, ensuring nothing was missed. This perseverance finally led Manu to success.
