Simpler and Faster Electricity Connections in Andhra Pradesh

Good news for those seeking new electricity connections in Andhra Pradesh. The government has introduced key changes to ensure that applicants receive connections immediately without long waiting periods or repeated visits to officials. The Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) has streamlined the process for issuing new connections.

Under the new system, fixed charges will apply for electricity connections up to 150 kW. Consumers need to pay the prescribed fee based on their required load at the time of application, and the connection will be approved instantly, with no delays. Site inspections and estimation procedures, which were previously mandatory, have been completely removed.

Earlier, officials used to inspect the site and estimate the cost after applications, which caused delays and inconvenience. To overcome these issues and promote “Ease of Living” in line with the central Ministry of Power guidelines, these changes were implemented. The new system follows the amendments made by the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission under the Electricity Consumer Protection Act, 2020.

For domestic consumers, the charge is Rs. 1,500 for the first kW, and for commercial connections, it is Rs. 1,800. For domestic connections up to 500 W, the charge is Rs. 800, and up to 1000 W, it is Rs. 1,500. With this new system, delays and discrepancies in estimation are eliminated. Consumers can get transparent and immediate service by paying the prescribed charges according to their load requirement. This initiative will make the process of issuing new electricity connections faster and simpler across the state.
