AP Introduces Smart Touch-Screen ePOS Machines in Ration Shops
The Andhra Pradesh government has launched next-gen smart touch-screen ePOS machines across ration shops, modernizing the Public Distribution System (PDS).
Features of the New System
- Touch-screen operations replacing outdated keypad devices
- Real-time Aadhaar verification for beneficiaries
- Digital receipts and SMS alerts for transparency
- Cloud-based monitoring to track distribution at every shop
Why This Reform is Important
Ration shops cater to lakhs of poor and middle-class families, providing essentials like rice, sugar, wheat, and kerosene at subsidized rates. Earlier, there were frequent complaints about delay, irregularities, and technical glitches in the old system.
The new system is expected to:
- Reduce corruption by making transactions trackable
- Save time for beneficiaries with faster processing
- Strengthen trust in the government’s welfare delivery
Government’s Vision
Speaking at the launch, AP’s Civil Supplies Minister stated:
“This is not just technology upgradation, it’s about dignity and respect for beneficiaries. Every family should get their share without delay or humiliation.”
Broader Implications
Experts say this could become a model for other states if successful. By combining technology with welfare schemes, Andhra Pradesh is showing that digital transformation can directly impact the lives of the common people.
