AP Electricity Department Recruitment: Government Approves Filling of Vacancies Soon

AP Electricity Department to Fill 9,849 Vacancies – 75% Posts to be Filled Soon, Notification Expected

After a decade, the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Department is set to recruit for 9,849 vacancies, with the state government approving the filling of about 75% of the posts. Official orders will be issued to the respective departments soon.

The recruitment will include both technical and non-technical posts such as:

  • Assistant Executive Engineers (AEE)

  • Assistant Engineers (AE) – Civil, Electrical, Telecom, IT

  • Junior Engineers

  • Junior Accounts Officers

  • Junior Assistants

  • Junior Linemen

  • Energy Assistants (in O&M division)

Reason Behind Vacancies

Due to retirements and promotions, vacancies increased significantly. The previous government did not conduct recruitments in the last five years, which forced staff to work in multiple roles, leading to a heavy workload and disruptions in power supply.

In 2014, only a limited number of posts were filled under the TDP government. Now, the new coalition government has given a green signal for large-scale recruitment. With nearly 40% of posts lying vacant, employee unions warned that electricity companies are becoming technically weaker.

Power Plants Running with Short Staff

Even though new thermal plants of 800 MW each were commissioned at VTPS and Krishnapatnam, no new staff recruitment was done, causing delays in resolving technical issues. Training programs for staff have also been put on hold.

Upcoming Notification

Officials are currently reviewing the most urgent vacancies that need to be filled. Sources say the recruitment process is expected to begin soon with an official notification.
