Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh’s Top Data Center Hub, Number One in the World!

Visakhapatnam is set to become the hub of massive data centers, positioning Andhra Pradesh as the number one state in the world in terms of data center capacity. Global IT giants like Google and TCS are making significant investments along the Visakhapatnam coast, which is expected to create over one lakh jobs in the next five years.

Currently, Virginia in the USA leads the world with 1.3 gigawatts of data center capacity. In comparison, Visakhapatnam alone will host TCS data centers with 2 gigawatts, Google’s subsidiary Raiden Infotech with 1 gigawatt, and CFI with 450 megawatts, taking the city’s total capacity to 3.5 gigawatts, surpassing Virginia and making Andhra Pradesh a global leader.

Key developments are moving rapidly. On the 14th of this month, an official announcement will be made in Delhi by IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, CM Chandrababu Naidu, and State IT Minister Nara Lokesh, along with Google representatives. Meanwhile, CFI will conduct a ground-breaking ceremony for its 450-megawatt data center and cable landing station in Visakhapatnam tomorrow.

Raiden Infotech, a Google subsidiary, plans to invest approximately ₹87,520 crores to build a three-phase data center over 500 acres in Achyutapuram, Adavivaram, and Turlawada. The state cabinet is expected to approve this investment proposal today. Recently, TCS representatives met CM Chandrababu at the Secretariat and confirmed the establishment of a 2-gigawatt data center in Visakhapatnam, which the CM welcomed.
