Key Change in Voter List: Aadhar Card Added as 12th Document
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has made an important decision regarding voter list revisions. As part of the special voter list revision process conducted across the country, Aadhar card will now be included in the list of documents accepted for voter identification. Clear instructions have been issued to Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of all states regarding this update.
Currently, voter verification allows 11 types of documents, including Passport and Driving License. However, following recent Supreme Court directives, Aadhar card will now be added as an additional document. This decision aligns with the Supreme Court verdict delivered on September 8.
As a result, voters can now use the Aadhar card as the 12th alternative document for proving their identity, in addition to the existing 11 documents. This rule will be implemented during the nationwide Special Summary Revision (SSR) of voter lists. Officials believe this change will make the voter registration and verification process simpler and more convenient for citizens.
