Plot:
AK (Ajith Kumar) is a feared gangster, known as the 'Red Dragon.' Even other international gangsters are terrified of him. He falls in love with Ramya (Trisha), marries her, and they have a son. However, Ramya insists that he leave the mafia if he wants to be a part of their child's life. Keeping his promise, AK spends 16 years in jail.
AK's son, Vihan (Karthikeyan), enters his teenage years unaware of his father's criminal past. Ramya has told him that his father is a businessman abroad. After AK is released from prison, Vihan is eager to meet him and hopes to spend his birthday with him. AK sets out to meet his son, but when news of his release reaches his enemies, they intercept him. By the time AK reaches Vihan, the police arrest him on drug charges. AK vows to get his son out of jail before his birthday and decides to find out who framed him in the case.
Analysis:
AK, after promising his wife and child a peaceful life, leaves behind his weapons to lead a normal life. However, when the need arises to protect his family, he is forced to return to his old ways. The movie explores his struggle to keep his word to his son while dealing with the mafia.
Ajith Kumar plays the role of the action hero with ease, a role he's familiar with. Trisha plays the heroine, while Arjun Das plays the antagonist. Supporting roles are played by Sunil, Prasanna, and Karthikeyan. The film has been made on a grand budget, with lavish production values. Director Adhik Ravichandran focuses on action sequences and emotions, with gunfire, bomb blasts, and chases dominating the screen. The film is targeted at mass audiences, but the question that lingers is whether Ajith fully embraced the story before taking on this project.
The premise of a gangster seeking peace and redemption, only to be dragged back into his violent past, feels outdated. The plot suffers from a lack of depth, with too many irrelevant characters that add little value to the story. Additionally, the portrayal of the hero's transformation from a ruthless gangster to a family man and back to a violent individual seems implausible and somewhat forced.
Performance:
