ECI Issues Notification for Bypolls to Five Assembly Constituencies

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday issued notifications for the bye-elections to five Assembly constituencies across the country. As per the schedule, polling will take place on November 11, while the counting of votes will be held on November 14.

According to the ECI, the 71-Nuapada Assembly Constituency in Odisha will have nominations filed between October 20 and 24, with scrutiny on October 22. The bypoll was necessitated following the death of BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia on September 8, who passed away while undergoing treatment in Chennai.

Similarly, in Punjab, the 21-Tarn Taran Assembly Constituency will go to the polls on November 11. Nomination filing begins on October 21, scrutiny on October 22, and withdrawals by October 24. The seat fell vacant after the demise of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal, who had earlier won with over 52,000 votes.

In Rajasthan, a notification was issued for the 193–Anta Assembly Constituency, which became vacant after MLA Kanwar Lal Meena was disqualified on May 23 in a 20-year-old criminal case. The nomination process will close on October 21, scrutiny will be held on October 23, and withdrawals by October 27.

Additionally, the ECI announced bye-elections for 77-Nagrota and 27-Budgam Assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir. Nominations open on October 20, scrutiny is on October 22, withdrawal by October 24, and polling on November 11.

These bye-elections are being conducted under Sections 150(1), 30, and 56 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
