Andhra Pradesh Set for Municipal Elections – SEC Issues Schedule, Polls to be Completed by January 2026
Andhra Pradesh is preparing for another round of elections, as the State Election Commission (SEC) has started the process for municipal polls. The current five-year term of several municipal corporations, municipalities, and nagar panchayats will end on March 17, 2026, and the SEC has directed that the elections be completed well before the deadline.
Key Election Schedule Highlights
- By October 15, 2025: Ward delimitation and reservation process to be completed.
- By November 15, 2025: Ward-wise voter lists to be finalized.
- By November 30, 2025: Polling stations to be identified and finalized.
- By December 15, 2025: Reservation process to be concluded, followed by a meeting with political parties in the last week of December.
- By January 2026: Entire municipal election process must be completed.
Future Election Plans
- After the municipal polls, gram panchayat elections will be held from January 2026.
- MPTC and ZPTC elections will be organized from July 2026.
Additional Details
The term of 12 municipal corporations and 75 municipalities/nagar panchayats, which were elected in 2021, will end in March 2026. Similarly, the tenure of Nellore Corporation and 12 other local bodies will end in November 2026.
The SEC has also highlighted pending elections in Srikakulam, Rajamahendravaram, and Mangalagiri–Tadepalli corporations, which were delayed due to legal issues.
With these developments, Andhra Pradesh is once again gearing up for an intense election season in the local bodies.
